Sansan in Chelsea

Sansan in Chelsea is a 3D moving image artwork by Liao Yibai. Exploring three-dimensional spaces, Yibai delivers a narrative throughout the collection, speculating about the connection between human and machine, and physical and virtual reality.

"When visiting galleries in the Chelsea district of Manhattan, I occasionally meet a few mischievous children playing in the gallery. They comment on the works; compared with the works of serious art on the wall, their innocence may be the beginning of art.

The works on the wall are the innocence of the artist after suffering for most of his life, trying to talk about his worldview in different ways; just like children who play, there is no commercial factor, just for his own play, pure and simple. To be happy; should be the position and attitude of art.

This time, in the virtual gallery space, I will show my latest works, and at the same time, for the first time, I have brought in several newly designed animated characters 'Sansan'. In my solo exhibition in 2007, I launched the sculpture character Sansan for the first time. Today, I use the method of virtual numbers to send it into a new virtual world.

Children are born to be artists, in reality, the real artists are naive, willful, paranoid, and pay the price for it all their life."- Liao Yibai
