Colored Bodies (Blue)

In the captivating collection, Colored Bodies, Manuel Tozzi extends his profound exploration of gravity and materiality within the realm of virtual space. Much like his previous work in Waving Mountains, the focus remains on 3D scanned stones, which are the protagonists of his computer animations.

Each of the four videos commences with a pair of stones, one on the left and one on the right. On closer inspection, it becomes apparent that these stones are mathematically precise replicas of each other, with the exception that one is a mirrored and differently colored counterpart of the other.

Subtly at first, then with increasing intensity, the stones commence a choreographed dance as if animated by an inherent will. For the first time in this collection, Tozzi combines photogrammetry and motion-tracking technology, enabling him to blend his fascination with contemporary dance and his research in digital sculpture.

The videos, with their stark simplicity, underscore the inherent beauty and elegance of form and weight in the rhythm of movement. This collection invites the viewer to experience the familiar physical world from a wholly new and mesmerizing perspective.
