Ashdown Forest, England 1

This artwork is from the “Infrared” series. View other artworks

Infrared lies beyond visible light on the electromagnetic spectrum, not discernible to the eye but felt as heat. An infrared camera is able to detect infrared radiation from a scene and convert it into an image, revealing very different perspectives from the world all around us.

Philip Clemo began working with infrared photography in 2020, in preparation for filming the Hibakujumoku (atomic bomb survivor trees) of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Clemo's new series of work, Infrared, captures dreamlike and otherworldly imagery from locations such as the Ashdown Forest of southern England, the mountains of northern Scotland and the glaciers of the French Alps.
