The Cage

This piece was inspired by the Holocaust memoir Night, by Elie Wiesel. The lion is meant to represent the victims of the Holocaust who resisted the Nazi powers, and fought back against their captors (shown in the sketch as a figure with a whip). The cage symbolizes the ever-present threat of death that surrounded them.
