This project started with a fascination of historic industrial monuments, and has since become a study of the mythic potential of object as narrative.
This circular structure is an ancient Irish well — In Irish folklore there is the motif of the “salmon of knowledge" residing in a well. One theory proposes that the traditional “well” creature would have been a coiled snake, and since snakes are unknown in Ireland, this symbol was replaced with that of a salmon. I find this interesting when considered in relation to the idea of “spiralled water” — water where the molecules have been aligned into a more easily absorbed form, with many health benefits. When you also consider that the symbol of the medical profession is a snake spiralled around a staff, then a number of significant mythic connections are formed.
