This artwork was created in 2016 using my own DNA data obtained from 23AndMe. The data driving this video are the rsids, which are the unique identifiers for each row of the data containing genotype, chromosome number, and location on chromosome. I created this animated abstraction of myself using database and programming software as well as audio/video editing tools. I composed the audio as well as the video. The format is a .MP4 file so it can be played on any device.
This video is currently being shown in the Stedelijk Museum in Breda, The Netherlands.
This self portrait is an example of the kind of commissioned portraits I create using the personal data of the collector. This data can be DNA, blood tests, tracking monitors, any data created by humans.
