Dear DNA, 2014

"Dear DNA" is part of the series entitled "US of A." challenging the notion of religion, sex, identity and race. Drawing on his extensive archive of vintage 35mm negatives, Caesar re photographs the images and hand embellishes them into new imagined forms.

The artwork looks at the systematic processes that constantly threaten the stability of the American Black male. The dark figure encased within the blood vessel is symbolic of forced migration throughout history, he attempts to maintain an identity amid racism, negative profiling and escalating police brutality. Two spermatozoa, microscopic in size contain genetic information which is transmitted by the male to activate the ovum. these cells continually battle for dominance up to the point of death.

"US of A" re imagines America from a Black British perspective.
