Parachute

A skeletal skin or fabric shell, Parachute - to judge from the voices heard off screen - appears to be an open tent that, during Imran Qureshi's unobtrusive filming, houses a discussion that is rooted to the floor of this material amphitheatre. As the verbal exchange continues, the artist turns his attention to the artificial sky, and the parachute that is opened out for an audience to enter into. Staring into this elevated abyss, Qureshi’s visual record of the situation offers no clues for the viewer to orientate themselves. With nothing certain to decipher, the artist draws our attention once again to the elemental beauty of materials and light, as they dance in and over one another.
