Cosmic dust is the dust present in space. Most of this dust is formed by grains smaller than 0.1 µm, but there are also refractory crystals of sizes close to or larger than one micron. Cosmic dust includes complex organic matter (amorphous solids with a mixed aromatic – aliphatic structure), which may have been synthesized in ancient stellar atmospheres.
