Eames works reflect on anthropocentric factors - our culpability for environmental imbalance. Visual interventions through colour, placement, scale, light and timing forge a re-choreographed world wherein the viewer can experience moments of both lucidity and confusion. What exactly is happening here? Eames focus is on membrane, particularly membrane as mediator between two viewing aspects; in front of and behind, revealed and hidden, seen and unseen, known and unknown. They exist in a time-frame but play forever. They are drawings which exist in the present continuous, drawings which may be viewed in entirety or not… These works propose that we come to realise and perhaps retrieve something unknown as opposed to relying on conditioning, opinion, taste or habit.
PENUMBRA is part of her CONTOUR series, 2024. (HD, 2160p x 2160p, square format.) A strange object that unsettles with a refusal of classification. Electric blue line moves slowly, silently, purposefully, turning, waxing and waning. A gentle rhythm - like the ebb of a tide that leaves traces in the memory of what came before. A black bowl endures, a still and silent anchor, around which the blue line endures, drawing attention to what is seen and what is not. The suggestion of a familiar object when ambient black lets its secrets be known - a space for the viewer to interpret, to wonder.
