In Derek Culley’s Murder On The Dance Floor, created by the artist on an iPad, multiple forms, edges and hues create an animated abstract panel. The work examines the ways in which forms and colours interact. Individual marks cluster together, fall away from each other and, in layers, create disjointed clusters. The final image is both balanced and chaotic. Culley appears to have carefully considered the weight and whereabouts of each of the colours; they are shaped in a particular manner, and situated in relation to complimentary or contrasting colours so that from a distance the effect is one of potential movement.
