I use to weave thread and yarn like a traditional weaver. The reason I switched to weaving with code is that I did not have the level of craft required to execute my visions. This slideshow, "Weaving with Data #1" and the slideshow "Weaving with Data #2" use data and algorithms to warp the loom and weave the weft. The data are from various sources, including DNA, fMRI, CERN Large Hadron Collider, and the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO).
The slideshows are an art form somewhere between a video and a single frame print. The frames change every 30 seconds, so the viewer can leave the show running as a piece of art in the background or to be viewed in a focused sitting. The slideshows solve the problem of a video that is too much motion to constantly display and the problem of a print that does not change without viewer intervention.
