Hope I

Hope I is a 2020 video artwork by Alvin Mak, launched as part of the Cognition collection. An abstract image is used to visualize the mindscape. 3D geometric data is used to warp and bend light. The ripple and flow result in the motion that presents the synthesis and the dissolution of elements. Hope explores the state of mind in times of uncertainty. The work is a trip though a space of ambiguity. The senses are unfamiliar and the mind is unable to resolve the unknown. A sense of faith and optimism grows in the air and encourages the mind to continue down the path. The work presents a myopic view in an unvisited location. The viewer is encouraged to sense the developing elements rather than to think.
