Miguel Angel Calderon was born in Madrid, grew up in Lima and lived in New York. His life has been marked by constant attempts to adapt to his environments and introduce himself to different points of view. In his work he looks to capture the ways in which our perception is defined by our cultural, social and institutional preconceptions. Reflections around our behavior in the digital era, our ever more globalized world and the omnipresence of judgement make part of his questioning of the validity of our opinions.
Through navigating the common grounds we have in spite of our backgrounds, he has seen a shared sense of vulnerability come into exposure. What do we have in common with those with complete opposite ideals than us? Can we find in them something inevitably human that leverages our experiences and allows us to connect with them? His path to explore those similarities is then to reduce distance.
