Liquid gold is seductively born out of and dissolves into infinite space. One of a series of three computer-generated motion pictures taking the earth's most traded raw materials as subject matter. Both tantalizing and disconcerting 'Gold' explores our complex relationship with the sought after commodity.
'Gold' is part of an evolution of animations the artist began with 'Funky Oil' in 1999 which was sold in Paul Smith and the Tate Modern Shop as 'DVD Pop Art'. At the time, Ilic described DVD Pop Art as 'new mass-produced digital moving image art enabling the public to transform their televisions into picture frames for the exhibition of moving image art'.
